Yellow Card Raises $40M to Scale Stablecoin Infrastructure for Global Businesses

Introduction

Yellow Card, the stablecoin infrastructure provider best known for powering crypto-to-fiat rails across Africa, has closed a $40 million strategic funding round. The round drew participation from SC Ventures (Standard Chartered’s innovation and investment arm), Sony Innovation Fund, Polychain Capital, Blockchain Capital, and other strategic backers.

The new capital brings Yellow Card’s total equity financing to more than $120 million, underscoring continued investor confidence in stablecoins as core financial infrastructure rather than a speculative retail product.

Where the Money Goes

Yellow Card says the funds will be used to:

  • Scale Global USD Accounts — the company’s enterprise product that lets businesses hold U.S. dollars, hold and swap stablecoins, manage treasury, and settle in local currency across dozens of countries.
  • Broaden its stablecoin rails connecting global markets, deepening the infrastructure that links traditional finance to digital-dollar liquidity.
  • Expand its footprint further into Latin America and Asia-Pacific, building on an existing base across more than 20 African jurisdictions.

Why It Matters

The round is another signal that stablecoin infrastructure, not retail trading, is where institutional capital is concentrating. Backers like Standard Chartered and Sony aren’t chasing speculative volume; they’re betting on the rails that let banks, payment processors, and multinational enterprises move dollar-equivalent value across borders without relying on traditional correspondent banking.

For a company like Yellow Card, already processing billions in transaction volume and holding licenses across North America, Europe, and Africa, this raise reinforces a broader thesis: African markets, with their high demand for hard-currency access and dollar liquidity, are becoming a proving ground for stablecoin infrastructure that will eventually scale globally.

That’s a trend worth watching closely for anyone building at the intersection of stablecoins, cross-border payments, and enterprise finance in Africa.
